- Finn McCorry's dance music journey began huddled over a laptop in his friends' bedrooms. Using Ableton from as young as 15, McCorry and his pals would attempt to recreate what they'd heard on Daft Punk live albums.
Today, McCorry is a beloved DJ, producer, presenter, label head and community builder, who has recently left his day job to focus on music full-time. His productions first appeared on Local Action in 2014, with sample-heavy repurposing of R&B with kinetic rhythms, and he's now one of the label's main artists, returning most recently last September with the bittersweet elations of A Good Place.
In 2017, McCorry launched 2 B Real, a Local Action sub-label, which has since released music by Anz, Michael J. Blood, Clemency, LOFT and Martyn Bootyspoon. Together with a crew of friends and fellow Manchester DJs—Anz, Chunky, Jungle Joe and Tom Boogizm—McCorry has also launched A Party Called, an event series that began pre-pandemic. The second edition sold out The White Hotel back in October.
In conversation with Martha from his home in south Manchester, McCorry spoke about being fresh out of university and launching the city's outpost of NTS Radio, how he champions the vision of the artists he works with on 2 B Real, and how, since his first visit for a Swing Ting party, local venue Soup has played such a vital role in his musical evolution.
