About

  • Human Shield is the vanity project of Peter Mangalore, Ali Renault and Tommy Walker 3. Originally the name given to a series of free parties that took place in a disused pub in Manchester, Human Shield evolved in to a loose collective of musicians, DJs and Graphic designers which encompassed the entire planet. Members were required to tell the cruel inner circle if they wished to leave, rather than ask to join. Previously Human Shield have doggedly stuck to a non commercial formula, spurning modern digital formats and releasing only on high quality vinyl. By completely changing the logo on every release they have attempted to avoid the cult of corporate identity whilst using a totally generic design. Their records are primarily a vehicle to display various pictures of some much-loved cats. 2003’s ‘Human Shield Vs Multiplex’ ep set out their musical manifesto which remains to this day. A finely balanced blend of serious boys bedroom electro with a generous dash of italo influenced techno-disco. This was followed by a full Multiplex ep in 2005 entitled Momensch, and then in 2008 by the simultaneous release of two records, Mr. Psik and DNCN’s ‘Kryst’ and a spit EP from Cestrian and Manasyt. Despite everything, 2010 will see the release of the début EP from the hotly tipped Gold Blood, which in a historic departure from the norm will be outed on CD and download as well as vinyl, closely followed by a re-release of the previous EPs in a digital format (eek!), With vinyl sales continuing to slide, and the widespread acceptance of digital formats by DJ’s, Human Shield have finally decided to plunge into today.
