  • Tash LC's dream was originally to be a TV presenter. But after studying broadcasting and hosting radio in university, the desire to share music came to the fore, beginning a journey that's since seen her become a regular fixture across airwaves and dancefloors. Responding to an online ad announcing the launch of Gilles Peterson's Worldwide FM in 2016, she became a broadcast assistant before gaining her own dedicated show, Rhythm Travels, the following year. This coincided with the first of her Boiler Room appearances, which preceded an acceleration of activity that saw her land a BBC 1Xtra residency and a weekly slot on Sunday nights for Kiss FM. After years of hosting parties, radio shows and DJ mixes under the Club Yeke umbrella, Tash launched a label-arm of the project in 2019, releasing music "from and inspired by the African Diaspora, Caribbean, South America, the UK and beyond," featuring artists like Jumping Back Slash, Kouslin, Bubas Produçoes and a collaboration between Ton Cali and Aka AFK. Tash spoke to Vanessa Maria as part of Resident Advisor's ongoing collaborative series with Black Minds Matter, covering the relationship between music and identity, and the power of sitting in silence.
