  • Nate Agbetu is a marketing specialist and co-founder of Play Nice, a self-described "social enterprise" developing design projects and communication campaigns. Since launching in 2019, the team developed the film The New Rave, which celebrated the black diaspora's impact on electronic music as part of Design Museum's exhibition "Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers." They've also been awarded Culture Mile and Foundation for Future London's Fusion Prize for a cultural production incubator called The Pattern. The initiative aims to support young creatives from underrepresented groups to develop community projects and work with Culture Mile's partners, which include the Barbican, LSO and Museum Of London. For this second instalment of RA's ongoing partnership with Black Minds Matter, Agbetu speaks with Vanessa Maria, a journalist and DJ who last year published the documentary When Well-being Is White: The Mental Health Of Black Students. In conversation we hear their views on the power of intention, music as an important compliment to social action and the meaning of community. Read a transcribed version of this interview.
