  • When it comes to dance music on the radio in the 21st century, few figures loom as large as Tim Sweeney. He is the well-loved host of Beats In Space, the hugely influential radio show on WNYU that just hit 20 years of broadcasting and is just shy of its 1000th episode. Having been mentored by the likes of Steinski and the DFA crew, Sweeney quickly grew into a respected DJ in his own right. But despite his busy schedule, he’s still been broadcasting every Tuesday night at 10:30 PM for all these years. Beats In Space is also a long-running label, which kicked off a new mix series this year with the superb Powder In Space release, wherein the Japanese DJ brought the radio show's knack for crucial sets into physical form. This Exchange was recorded live earlier this month in Sydney before a 20 Years Of Beats In Space party. The city's own dance music radio veteran Lorna Clarkson lifts the lid on the influences and experiences that made Sweeney into the vital figure he is today. The RA Exchange is also available on Spotify.
