- Jubilee is a master of the art of party-rocking. Her style is unmistakably American, and particularly East Coast, mixing hip-hop and dancehall with grime, electro and regional club sounds from across the hemisphere. It's a convergence of rave music with Caribbean and Latin rhythms that could only emerge out of migrant cities like New York or Miami, the two places she calls home. Jubilee, born Jessica Gentile, got her start early, sneaking out of her parents house in the '90s to make mischief in the South Florida rave scene. The slamming 808s and audacious vocal chants of Miami bass are at the core of her productions, and they come through loud and clear on her debut album, After Hours, which came out in October via Mixpak.
Now based in New York City, Gentile's been releasing records and throwing parties with Dre Skull's Brooklyn-based label for the last half decade. She's become one of the star producers in a roster that also includes Jamaican dancehall legends Vybz Kartel and Popcaan, as well as UK artists like Murlo, Palmistry and GAIKA. A few months after the release of her album, Max Pearl stopped by the Mixpak recording studios to talk Miami music history, the state of club music today and what it was like to defeat Wiley in last year's Red Bull Culture Clash.
