  • The prolific UK artist explains his recent rebirth.

  • Over the last six months, Jack Adams has: released an album called Proto with his frequent collaborator Logos. Debuted a collaborative live project with Shapednoise and Logos called The Sprawl. Released a Fabriclive mix. Participated in the Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo. Released a single on XL Recordings with Novelist. And started a label, Different Circles, with Logos. (He's also been putting on regular club nights in London, but we forgot to ask about that.) He's busy, but that's just what it's been like since he returned from a self-enforced hiatus a couple of years ago and blew people away with his new sound. Adams was originally associated with big, electro-leaning house. He got his break through Diplo's Mad Decent label, and wound up touring the world. But it's through his explorations of grime and its related forms that he's found his voice. Adams has plenty of likeminded artists in his orbit—he counts Novelist, Logos, Rabit and Pinch among his regular collaborators—and between them they've been behind some of the freshest music to recently hit soundsystems. Adams stopped by our London office to explain why he's feeling so inspired.
