  • The world is a big place, and since his career started bubbling up during New York's house boom late in the last decade, DJ Qu has seen more and more of it. With gigs across Europe and the Americas nearly every weekend, Qu—as he's known to just about everyone—has reached a point in his career that back when he was cutting class to dance or staying up all night listening to house on the radio in his native New Jersey he never dreamed was coming. But if you bumped into Qu on a Tuesday afternoon, you'd probably think he was your average guy: when the weekend ends, he's back in the state he's long called home, working the same nine-to-five he's held down for years and biding his time until his next international flight out of Newark. More than plenty of other artists navigating this stage in their careers, Qu has stayed true to his original vision, with his releases for his own Strength Music label continuing to advance a broodingly funky style of house you couldn't mistake for anyone else's. During a recent swing through Berlin, we caught up with Qu about where he's at right now—his home base of America, his recent travels and some unexpected inspirations.
