360 Degrees is club night with House at its basis with regular trips to genres such as obscure Afrobeat, Disco, Boogie and Electronics. The New York DJ, producer remixer and label manager Joe Claussell will be mixing his music for the second time in BIRD on Friday November 6th.
Vinyl collector and owner of a record store
Joe Claussell was born in a big Puerto Rican family in which music played a very important role. Not long after being introduced to the club life at age 15 he started collecting vinyl. His eclectic taste made him feel at home just as easily in a Disco club as in Punk club CBGB.After he moved to the East Village, at the start of the nineties, he fell in love with record shop DanceTracks. He developed a friendship with the owner and became resident-DJ of the store. Slowly, but surely, he gained a dedicated crowd of music lovers. He would become owner of DanceTracks eventually but first he made a huge underground hit with his track ‘Awade’.Record label boss, remixer and legendary DJ Joe founded the label Spiritual Life in the mid-nineties and, together with friend Jerome Sydenham, he stood at the cradle of Ibadam Records. These labels released music of, amongst others, Ten City, Mateo & Matos and Slam Mode. He also became a highly sought-after remixer, which meant he worked on songs by Femi Kuti, Beth Orton and Herbie Hancock. Joe Claussell also became one of the residents of the legendary New York ‘Sunday afternoon’ Body & Soul. Music lovers from New York and the rest of the world came to listen and dance to his completely unique mix of Soul, Disco, Funk, House and even Classical music for six years.
Of course this night will get started on the right pace by help of the tunes from 360-Degrees resident Thelonious.
