Biography

  • softcoresoft is a Montreal-based DJ and music maker. Acid is the throughline of her sound, which blends techno, trance, electro, jungle and dub.
Anchoring softcoresoft as a rising Canadian talent of the rave scene, 2019 was a big year: she took part in the RBMA Bass Camp in Calgary, played two Boiler Room shows (Toronto and Paris, the latter was not recorded) and she launched Humidex, a new Canadian techno label that softcoresoft co-runs with Absurde and S. Chioini. Aside from high-octane and eclectic DJ sets, softcoresoft performs live hardware sets that blend techno, acid, electro and trance. Her local performances have included the city’s best electronic music platforms, including several appearances at MUTEK Montréal and Piknic Électronik, Igloofest, Stereo nightclub, OCTOV, Exposé Noir, Never Apart, POP Montréal, LIP, Datcha as well as countless raves and loft parties. From an early point in her DJ trajectory, softcoresoft has been a Discwoman collaborator, playing at their events in both Montreal and Brooklyn (Technofeminism at Bossa Nova Civic Club) and releasing a well received Discwoman mix in February 2018. "As one of the leaders of the Montreal underground she has been championing for women representation in music whilst playing slamming yet eclectic techno sets" — Discwoman Outside of her hometown, softcoresoft has also performed in Paris (Possession x Boiler Room), Berlin (Buttons, Weeeirdos), Barcelona (LAUT), London (Corsica Studios), Detroit (Marble Bar), Norway (International Bergen Festival), Düsseldorf (Golzheim), Ciel's "Work In Progress" party in Toronto, Overland's "Freak Hour" rave in Vancouver and many more. Every other month, softcoresoft hosts Ravelength Radio, a show on N10.AS— Montreal's online community radio station. The show serves as a platform for showcasing mainly woman-identified DJs through guest mixes and interviews. Through RBMA and MUTEK collaborations, softcoresoft has interviewed artists such as Pan Daijing, rRoxymore, Machine Woman, Equiknoxx, Electric Indigo, DEBIT, Sau Poler, and Space Afrika among others. Lagom is a rave collective in Montreal that softcoresoft has been involved in alongside Danji Buck-Moore (anabasine) and Dominique Alexander (Buffalo MRI). In 2017, they curated and self-released the benefit compilation Power Puerto Rico. It received positive press from FACT, The Fader, RA, XLR8R, Tiny Mixtapes and more, thus raising over $2500 USD to help Puerto Rico’s recovery after Hurricane Maria.
